The South Fork of the St. Lucie River offers an excellent paddle trip for canoe and kayaking enthusiasts.  The full trip is approximately 7 miles down and back, and it takes about 4 hours. There is also a 3 mile nature trail that may be hiked or mountain biked (see map below).  This area is part of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge Preserve State Park:

Several trails are also available just West of the river in Halpatiokee Regiional Park, which is located at the South end of Lost River Road. This is easily accessed by taking Interstate I-95, exitiing at SR 76 (Kanner Hiighway East), in Stuart, FL. There is also a boat launch & dock facility located at Hosford Park, which is one block east at Cove Road and Kanner Hwy. 

Hosford Park sits along the South Fork of the St. Lucie River.  From I-95, take SR 76 east to Cove Rd. Turn right on Gaines Street, and then right into Hosford Park. Bring your kayak or canoe.  You can paddle the scenic waterway, or even stop at the trail to enjoy a hike through the river hammocks. Along the way you will see water hickories, as well as cabbage palms, maple trees, water oaks, ash, holly, mulberry, pond apple, and scrubby flatwoods.  Bring your camera and enjoy!
